The protests and unrest of 2022 must be understood as the outcome of an interaction between internal factors and external interventions, such that without underlying social grievances and a trust gap between the public and the state, external forces would have been unable to steer the protests toward civil unrest. The persistence of livelihood demands and the widening class divide, ethnic and generational discontent, as well as women's demands in the spheres of social participation and legal freedoms, constitute the core background of the crisis. At the political level, the consequences of the unrest include the deepening of the nation-state divide, social polarization, rising pessimism and despair particularly among youth, the weakening of social security, the tarnishing of the country's international image through media warfare, and the intensification of sanctions and capital flight. Meanwhile, the weakness of domestic media in reclaiming news authority and the prominent role of cyberspace in sustaining insecurity have stood out. Policy strategies emphasize strengthening national unity and preventing polarization, restoring media authority to domestic media through short- and mid-term programs, legally distinguishing between misled individuals and hostile actors in dealing with detainees, curbing extremist rhetoric among political factions, establishing legal mechanisms for assemblies and protests, strengthening party-building and party accountability, reforming economic policies and improving livelihoods and employment, regulating cyberspace, and designing post-crisis programs for governance reform and the prevention of recurring unrest.
