Abstract
Contemporary cultural and social transformations have metamorphosed valuation criteria and family living patterns within Iranian society, resulting in the family institution facing threats such as rising marriage ages, shifting meanings of marriage, the growth of pre-marriage relationships, an increasing divorce-to-marriage ratio, and the expansion of family tensions. This condition is analyzed within the framework of a "cultural purgatory" resulting from the incomplete coexistence of tradition and modernity, which has led to the turbulence of family roles, the fading of shared norms, and the weakening of the emotional and educational functions of the family. Amidst this, excessive emphasis on individualism and individual rights has disrupted the balance between personal and familial goals, leaving long-term consequences on children and social capital. The experience of Western societies also demonstrates that the collapse of the family has been a historical process, and efforts are currently underway to revive family values. Accordingly, reinforcing "affection" (ulfat) and "compassion" (mawaddah), inspired by religious and cultural heritage, alongside the redefinition of attitudes, emotional reconstruction based on tranquility, and behavioral training grounded in self-restraint, can serve as effective strategies for family consolidation. Furthermore, the roles of the media, the education system, and state support policies in role-modeling, reducing the representation of violence, increasing family togetherness time, and strengthening the maternal role and family cooperation are evaluated as decisive in realizing this prospect.
